Stari Drugovi – Artist Bio
Stari Drugovi is a musical project created by drummer and producer Miroslav “Miki” Lekic, founder of Studio 11 Productions, bringing together a remarkable group of musicians and singers from across the United States and the former Yugoslavia.
With artists based in Nashville, Charleston, New York, and Los Angeles, the project unites seasoned professionals who share a deep love for the music and spirit of the old Yugoslav rock era. Many of the performers originally come from Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Slovenia, and most of them have known each other for decades — true stari drugovi (“old friends”).
The idea behind the project was simple but powerful: to gather passionate musicians and create recordings at the highest level, honoring the sound and emotion of the music they grew up with. Under the umbrella of Studio 11 Productions, the group records both classic-inspired songs from the Yugoslav era and new compositions in English, blending nostalgia with modern production.
For the members of Stari Drugovi, this project is more than just recording music. It is a celebration of friendship, shared history, and the timeless sound that shaped a generation.
Povratak Andjela
The album “Return of Angels” (Povratak Andjela) captures this spirit. Some songs are newly written, while others were originally demo recordings from years past that had never been officially released. Now re-imagined with world-class musicians and production, these songs revive the powerful atmosphere of the 1980s Yugoslav rock scene—a time when music, youth, and creativity thrived across the region.
Zemljo Moja Jedina
This is a protest song focused solely on Serbia. It is a patriotic call to the people of Serbia to stand strong, resist oppression, and refuse silence. The song expresses a deep love for the country and hope for a better future, while encouraging people to remain strong and united in the face of a corrupt and criminal government influenced by Russia and China—one that has made life in Serbia increasingly difficult and, for many, almost unbearable to live.
Muzika Velikog Platna
Muzika Velikog Platna is a collection of 15 reimagined soundtracks from some of the most beloved films of the former Yugoslavia. These timeless melodies carry the spirit of an era that many of us remember with deep nostalgia.
Some of these unforgettable themes deserved to be brought back to life, and we were thrilled to collaborate with outstanding musicians and producers to recreate them with fresh energy while honoring their original soul.
This special collection celebrates the magic of the great silver screen—reviving the emotions, memories, and cinematic atmosphere that made these songs part of our shared cultural history.
Ja Sam I Dalje Muško
The song "Ja Sam I Dalje Muško" carries the echo of older times—when life was simple, honest, and a man didn't need to explain himself. He just was. While she sees flowers—gentle and delicate, he smiles and sees grass—and wonders if it goes well with a beer. Where she finds wishes and sparkle in the stars, he looks at the sky and wonders if rain is coming. Two worlds, one love… always dancing together.
Maybe she thinks she can change him just a little, and maybe she even can—but beneath it all, through every joke, every moment, every compromise, one truth remains: remember, my dear—I am still a man.
He is the one who will pour out his heart and hold your hand, write songs that can make a day cry, walk the dog, carry your bag… but if trouble comes, if some fool lays a hand on you—he’s finished. A protector by nature, strong not just in muscle, but in heart.
In a world that keeps changing its rules, softening edges and redefining everything, he stands a little amused, a little stubborn, and deeply rooted. Not perfect—maybe a little wild, maybe a little rough around the edges—but real.
Because no matter the trends, the noise, or the passing ideas…
my dear, I am still a man.
Like an old song, a little worn, a little wiser… but still strong, still standing, and still himself
Rakijo Majko Nemira Mog
"Rakijo Majko Nemira Mog" is a deeply emotional song about two people who loved each other intensely, but were torn apart by life’s circumstances. Though they never found their way back to one another, their love never faded. Instead, it lived on in silence and longing, as they each carried that unfulfilled love within them—ultimately seeking comfort in alcohol until it consumed them both.
